China's New Economy: Notes from the GBA
Monthly webinar series from 13 October, 2020
Join ULI China Mainland and ULI Hong Kong for the GBA Committee’s inaugural online webinar series on “China’s New Economy: Notes from the GBA”
The GBA, the Great Bay Area, is at the cutting edge of China’s shift from the legacy industrial export model to the new high-tech, consumer driven, service-oriented economy. A shift that faces unprecedented geo-political, social-economic, and internationally competitive challenges.
Global companies like Huawei, Ping An, DJI, Tencent, Alibaba, and Lenovo have established global or regional headquarters in the GBA, from which they are deploying world leading technologies and disruptive management innovations to drive change into China and outwards to the rest of the world.
The ULI’s mission to lead the future of global urban development and the responsible use of land plays an important role in shaping this transition. By leveraging the strength of our members and their networks, we will contribute by engaging with and growing our activities into thriving ULI GBA communities.
We kick off the series by introducing “The New Economy from the GBA’s Perspective”, followed by other topics including smart cities, proptech, fintech and education, which examine the viewpoints, issues and solutions that will propel transitions into the next decade.

The New Economy from the GBA's Perspective
Tuesday 13 October | 9:00am -10:00am | Webinar
This month’s seminar will introduce ways that the New Economy is changing the GBA. Shifting from “workshop” to “technology leader” of the world requires coordinated government and economic policies as well the social and commercial ecosystems that grow innovation. Already considered the Silicon Valley of China, the GBA seeks to surpass its Chinese rivals in Hangzhou and Beijing, and then overtake the US to become the tech capital of the world.
Our three speakers will discuss the government’s incentives, the local company initiatives, and international company strategies related to the New Economy. What have they planned and how have these plans changed in the wake of geo-politics and pandemic-related pushback?
